Betts-443 variety, struck in Silver. 49.3mm.
A rare and desirable issue struck in Spain and depicting the 1763 Capture of Morro Castle in Havana by the British.
The obverse portraits are Spanish heroes Don Luis Velasco and Vincente Gonzalez who died defending the fort, while the reverse depicts the Krakatoa-like explosion of the powder magazine. Wow.
And this is a lovely example of this rare and desirable silver composition, with rich silvery gray color and delicate toning in the devices.
