Breen-700 variety, generally available in mid-range circulated grades, but scarce in AU and just about impossible to find in the mint state condition seen here.
Slightly softly struck at the upper obverse, but overall this one ranks among the top 4 or 5 we’ve seen or handled, with very choice surfaces and fresh, original luster.
This piece came from an incredible collection of French Colonial coins we purchased earlier this year (which was also the source of the unique 1670-A Double Sol featured in our archives, along with other phenomenal rarities and condition census pieces), including a number of coins pedigreed to well-known auctions – including this one.
Ex-Stack’s June 1973 sale, lot #829; earlier New Netherland’s June 1954 ‘Forty-Fourth Catalog’, lot #4.
