A fascinating and by definition unique piece produced circa 1860 by Yale Student C. Wyllys Betts using a hand cut copy of the famous Immune Columbia obverse die muled with a genuine Nova Constellatio copper reverse.
An original brown, crude as described, perhaps as made though with the appearance of Very Fine or so. There is a heavy straight cut (incurred during production?) on the Nova side.
Hand-made, by definition unique, and cool as all get-out.
Ex Stack’s May 2006 sale of the John Ford Collection, Part XIV, lot #552.
