Ryder-1, W-2250 variety, considered to be Rarity-5+.

Amazingly, we are pleased to present a second example of this issue (meaning that more than 5% of the extant population is right here, right now).

And this piece has a stronger strike and better obverse and reverse detail than can be found on the majority of known examples.  Some not-too-distracting surface damage prevents PCGS certification, however.

All things considered, this is a representative example with much more ‘meat’ on it than can typically be found at this (or nearly any) price range.  It also evidently represents the very best that Herbert Oechsner could obtain, which is saying something since his collection of state copper coins, assembled over decades, is legendary in the colonial community.

Ex Stack’s September 1988 sale of the Herbert M. Oechsner Collection, lot #1326; earlier Stack’s February 1955 Sale, lot #364.
