Vlack 17-87A, W-7900 variety, considered to be Rarity-2 as an issue but more like R-8 in the resplendent condition seen here.
This is the finest Machin’s Mills coin of any variety that we’ve ever had a chance to buy, with bold, lustrous surfaces and flashes of 18th century mint red lingering in the devices on the obverse and reverse. It is also the finest graded Machin’s Mills piece of any variety at either service.
As an aside, this coin had resided in the CRO internal condition census as numero uno for decades as a black and white photo found in Herbert I. Melnick’s obscure November, 1983 “Grand Central Auction”, lot #77. And now here it is in the flesh.
