A nice piece with smooth, hard surfaces not often seen on Machin’s coinage.

Pleasing, original chocolate brown with some tinges of reddish brown here and there and just a few scattered marks commensurate with the grade.

The strike – while still well above average – is not quite full, rendering the central design elements a bit soft and revealing a trace of the original planchet texture in the central obverse. This characteristic is seen even on the highest graded examples, including the superb Choice AU piece shown in our Archives.

In all, this piece would be a nice addition to a high grade colonial type set.
