Maris 67-v variety, Head Right Redbook type. Considered to be Rarity-3.
A nice example of this variety, and charming piece of numismatic history with the ’67-v’ attribution painted on the obverse in an artful script in India ink (as noted on the PCGS holder).
‘Inking’ the attribution directly on the coin’s surface was not uncommon in the 19th century on Connecticut coppers, but it is very rarely seen on NJ coins – in fact, this is only the second such piece we’ve ever handled.
The coin itself is wholesome with rich brown color on a nice planchet.
