Breen-1020, the Thick Planchet, Plain Edge variety.
The nicest example of this enigmatic issue we’ve ever handled.
And while this is the most common of the Mott varieties, there is nothing common about this coin in this condition, well centered and evenly struck from an early state of these dies. Lovely chocolate brown color too, with smooth, hard problem free surfaces.
It bears noting that PCGS has graded a number of Motts at a level equal to this specimen, but the majority of those other examples are late die states with weak, uneven strikes and look nothing like the present specimen.
