A lesser example of this variety sold at Heritage 10 years ago and was described there as one of “probably less than 4 or 5 known”.

And while we cannot confirm that exact population, it is fair to say that this is a rare and seldom seen issue, and that the present example is significantly finer than the one in that earlier auction, with choice, original surfaces, a lovely golden brass patina and an intact original shank.
