A thick, dollar-sized (39.2 mm) French medal issued for the National Convention of Artists in Lyon by Galle. Struck in ‘Bell Metal’, a bronze like composition.
The obverse of this piece shows a head of Liberty with flowing hair and a cap atop a pole, leading some to conclude that this type was an inspiration for Robert Scot`s American Half Cent.
The piece itself is a pleasing bronze shade with nice surfaces and very sharp detail.
