Our extensive research of this issue suggests that true original strikings are [i]always[/i] seen in circulated grades of VF to AU and evidence some scattered marks and nicks as on this example.

Many of the high grade mint state Castorland Medals which have been slabbed and offered as original strikings in recent years are actually restrikes and have a more modern appearance.
