A nice, collectible example of this the rarest date in the entire Large Cent series.

The 1799 has always been a special issue, famous for its rarity since the early days of American numismatics prior to the Civil War. Problem free specimens, like this example, have always been in strong demand, particularly the select few with the clear, bold date (particular the ’99’) as seen here.

This coin does have some scattered small nicks, and an area of weakness on the upper reverse, but it is still substantially better than most.

The PCGS label says G4 which, even 10 years ago when this coin was holdered, must have seemed awfully conservative. In our view its a solid VG with some claims to F, and we bought it, and offer it, on that basis.
