Musante GW-76, Baker-164 variety, struck in White Metal. 56mm. Holed for Suspension.
A rare and seldom seen large scale funeral medal variant with an obverse portrait of Washington, and a reverse scene of an urn on a pedestal surrounded by HE IS IN GLORY THE WORLD IN TEARS with VICTOR SINE CLADE (which translates as Victor without Rout) in the center.
A majority of the survivors of this type are well worn, damaged or engraved. And while this one is not perfect, with some ancient scratches and scrapes likely incurred while being worn at one Washington’s funeral marches, it presents quite well with nice eye appeal and choice original color and is finer than all but one of these we’ve ever seen.
Awesome provenance, too.
