Breen 1083 variety, holed for suspension as is the case with virtually all surviving specimens.

Most examples known to today’s collectors can be traced to a find of a few dozens pieces in the Umpqua River Valley in Oregon in the middle 1970s.

This piece, like all of those unearthed, exhibits some surface roughness, scattered bumps and scrapes, evidence of corrosion and general indications of a pretty tough life.

Still, this one is better than many we’ve seen.

All of the legends and design details are clear and visible, the denticles and borders are very close to complete and the color is a generally pleasing deep golden brass with some darker areas here and there.

In all, this is a more than respectable example of this challenging type.
