The lone die variety known of this date and one of just 2,600 pieces struck. Today it is believed that not more than 50 to 60 survive in all grades.

And this is surely among the most appealing of those.

Semi-prooflike, with frosted devices and partially mirrored fields and extremely attractive as such.

There are some light scattered marks here and there and just a touch of rub and strike softness on the eagle’s left shoulder as always seen on this type. Even the two known one-sided proofs of this date (one permanently ensconced in the Smithsonian Collection, the other in the Harry Bass Research Foundation collection) display this same characteristic.

A rare and important coin which we are pleased to offer on this site.
