OK, everyone calls this the ‘Little Orphan Annie’ dime , but where did that nickname come from?
Apparently, it was first ‘coined’ in a 1931 article in Hobbies magazine by a writer named Frank Ross who felt that despite its small mintage of 72,500, this issue wasn’t getting the attention it deserved.
Mr. Ross evidently solved that problem right quick, and these pieces have been popular ever since.
The coin itself is charming and original with delicate pastel toning.
