Dewitt-C-1861-13 variety, struck in silver-gilt brass.

And this is a really interesting and scarce item, depicting a man on a gallows surrounded by JEFFERSON DAVIS with 1861 below, and DEATH TO TRAITORS on the reverse.

With lustrous silvery-gray color, deeper toning in the devices and just a lone dark patch of what appears to be Civil War era crud at TRAITORS on the reverse.

We can find just one major auction record for this type, a like-graded MS63 [NGC] piece sold in Stack’s-Bowers January 2010 auction, lot #5358, which realized $2,760 that day.  But this one is less.

$2,375
