A fascinating and historical issue which, as indicated on the reverse, is made from the actual armor plate of the Merrimac (and it looks that way, with myriad raised die polishing lines on the obverse and reverse as always seen on this type).

And while these often come corroded or significantly impaired, this one is pretty nice with pleasing color and the design about as bold and clear as it ever comes on this issue.
