A rare and desirable item with a neat portrait of Washington on the obverse, and an interesting excerpt of a letter written by Washington to Hamilton on the reverse as follows: I HOPE THAT / LIBERAL ALLOWANCES/ WILL BE MADE, FOR THE / POLITICAL OPINIONS OF / EACH OTHER. WITHOUT THESE / I DO NOT SEE HOW THE REINS / OF GOVERNMENT ARE TO BE / MANAGED, OR HOW / THE UNION OF THE STATES / CAN BE MUCH LONGER / PRESERVED.

The piece itself is an untouched, original, chocolate brown unc. with some Grade-A 19th century crust on the obverse and reverse.
