Judd-627 variety, one of perhaps 8 to 12 in existence.

Similar in design to the three cent nickels then in circulation in post-Civil War America, but here beautifully rendered in copper with exceptionally wide rims and appearing almost medal-like.

Superior in our view to the design actually chosen for the Shield Nickel (but of course everyone always says that about pattern coins).

A superb piece, with full blazing mint red color and exceptional, original surfaces conservatively graded at the 64 level.

$7,500
