HK-12a, Julian CM-39 variety, struck in Silver by William Barber. 45mm. Considered to be Rarity-6.
A beautiful silver medal struck at the Philadelphia mint to commemorate completion of the first transcontinental railroad.
With a hipster portrait of Ulysses S. Grant above THE OCEANS UNITED BY RAILWAY and May 10, 1869 on one side, and a super-detailed railroad scene below a banner stating EVERY MOUNTAIN SHALL BE MADE LOW on the other. Wow, that’s cool.
And this lovely, original, delicately toned gem is the finest surviving example.
