A great rarity in this condition, and desired by numismatists ever since this overdate was discovered in 1962 by Del Romaines.
This overdate wasn’t regularly listed in price guides until 1972, which likely accounts for the extreme rarity of this issue in gem uncirculated grades. Note that its counterpart, the 1942/41 Philadelphia mint dime, was first reported in print in 1943, giving collectors more time to find high grade specimens in circulation and in rolls.
Brilliant and untoned with a strong strike.
