A landmark piece in the colonial series.
Possibly the finest of not just this denomination, but of any Maryland Lord Baltimore colonial issue.
Plated on the cover of the Eliasberg catalog, and prominently featured in the 1953 Life Magazine article proclaiming Eliasberg the ‘King of Coins’, this was said to have been one of his favorite pieces (undoubtedly due to its connection to his hometown of Baltimore).
Silvery gray with delicate golden toning and an extremely sharp strike for an issue that most often comes quite weak.
Ex Bowers’ May, 1996 sale of the Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection, lot #19.
This coin is from the CRO archives and is not currently available for sale.
