Renesse-72 variety, struck in Bronze.  21mm.

One of a series of interesting and macabre issues struck to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the remains of St. Lambert being interred at the Church of Liege.

And this is the finest example of this charming type we’ve ever seen or know about, with superb über-gem surfaces and considerable 17th century mint red remaining on the obverse and reverse.

Of all of the pieces we’ve acquired during the last two decades, this is among the most surprising to me, since I would not have imagined that this issue could be found in this state of preservation until I saw it with my own eyes.
