Martin 1-A, W-1318 variety, No Ribbon Redbook type.

While the Rosa Americana 2p With Ribbon type appears in the marketplace with some frequency, this one simply never trades.  That’s not surprising, of course, when one considers that there are but 3 known: The Ford specimen which last sold into strong hands 2005, an example in the ANS Collection and this piece which last traded in the Norweb sale 27 long years ago.

So if you hope to own this major type, this is likely your only option for the foreseeable future. Fortunately the coin itself is quite pleasing, with nice, original, chocolate brown surfaces, and flashes of the original golden bath metal color on the obverse and reverse.

Ex Bowers March 1988 sale of the Norweb Collection, as noted, Part III, lot #2393.
