Neumann-32354 variety, issued by W. Lauffer III.

This piece is a Rechenpfennig (German for ‘accounting penny’) similar to tokens or jetons from many countries used as gaming counters or the like.  Pieces struck in this era in Nürnberg featured a variety of topical historical, mythological or political themes.

Such as this one, with GELT MACHT SCHELCK (the tried and true ‘Money Makes Me Ill’ sentiment) and the all important dog expressing his opinion boldly and clearly to the right.

The piece itself is a lovely, glossy, golden brown AU.

$675
