Ryder 9 variety, considered to be Rarity-3 as a type, but more like Rarity-7 in the amazing state of preservation seen here.

There are three things one can say with certainty about the Vermont Baby Head variety:

  1. The unusual and charming obverse motif makes this one of the most popular and sought after coins in all of colonial numismatics.

  2. These pieces are, unfortunately, typically found on absolutely decrepit, hideously flawed planchets.

  3. This issue is readily obtainable in low grade with problems, but is hardly ever seen in grades of VF or higher.

An example like this one, in superb condition and on an essentially flawless, original planchet is nothing less than a numismatic miracle.

Nicely struck and well centered for this type, with full legends and complete detail. Lovely, original chocolate brown color too, uniform on the reverse with some natural golden tan across the upper obverse.

Try, just try, to find another . . .
