We are pleased to offer this superb 1935-D 50C Texas Half Dollar with the original Colonel Green gold-foil presentation box.

The 1981 Swiatek-Breen commemorative reference called these pieces “proof-like presentation strikings from brilliantly polished dies”, while more recent 2012 Swiatek Encyclopedia described them as follows:

Fifty gold foil presentation boxes with green velour interiors, housed only the early-struck, proof-like 1935 Denver strikings. (Should any other Texas issue be found in such a box, it was replaced.) The inner top cover is imprinted in black: ‘The Texas Independence Centennial, Compliments of E.H.R. Green’. Green also presented 50 three-piece sets in silver foil boxes with a black velour interior.

The coin itself is clearly special, with a proof-like obverse, hammered strike, cool old toning and housed in an ooooold PCGS slab.

The PCGS encapsulated coin, Colonel Green box and a copy of the Swiatek-Breen passage are all housed in a custom screw-type plastic holder.

Ex Heritage’s September 2025 sale of the Hillspoint Collection (the owner of which I met in graduate school in the early 1990s); earlier Superior’s September 1996 sale of the Gilbert Steinberg Collection, lot 138, with the original lot tag affixed to the plastic holder.

Note that this coin has been verified by CAC with a Gold sticker indicating that it exceeds their standards for this grade level.
