K-10 variety, 67 Grains, 21 Carats type. Considered to be Rarity-5.
Bechtler coinage was produced in Rutherford County, North Carolina circa 1830-1850 in several different series based on changing weight and fineness standards, with this K-10 $2.5 a fifth series issue.
And while this is a scarce type in any grade, it is downright rare with any semblance of originality as most survivors are seen cleaned and impaired.
Making this lovely, original, golden orange mint state example with nice surfaces an especially desirable example.
Note that this coin has been verified by CAC.
