Adams-PBvi-6-G variety, Porto Bello.

One of a series of interesting medals celebrating the 18th century exploits of Admiral Edward Vernon.

Such as on this piece depicting Vernon’s boast that he could take the strategic Spanish defenses at Porto Bello, Panama “with six ships only.” In early 1739, he got his six ships, proceeded to make good his boast, and was honored on this neat piece for his efforts.

And this is an unusually lustrous, well made and quite appealing example with superb, original golden brass color.
