Betts-562, W-1730, Without Wreath Below Ship. Struck in Brass.
A superb example of this popular issue with a razor sharp strike, lustrous surfaces and lovely patina with much of the original golden luster remaining.
This is the finest example of this issue we’ve seen or owned, and the highest graded example of this ‘No Wreath, Brass’ type certified by PCGS.
And frankly we wouldn’t be surprised to see this coin wind up in an even higher holder (though we are content to offer it as a choice 64).
Ex Stack’s Bowers March, 2013 sale of the Ted L. Craige Collection, lot #199; earlier ex Richard Picker.
$25,000
