W-1760 variety.
A superb example of this scarce denomination, with delicate coin-gray color, a hint of place pale blue toning and delicate die lines visible in the fields on both the obverse and reverse.
Conservatively graded by PCGS, this piece can be traced to Stack’s landmark June 1973 Auction of the Virgil Brand Collection, lot #832, where it was described as follows: "A perfect little gem with full mint lustre. Almost perfectly centered, with nothing off the planchet except several denticles. A magnificent sharp strike with every tiny detail fully struck up. . . Uncirculated."
Note that the PCGS grommet conceals portions of this piece giving it the appearance of being off-center, which, as indicated by the earlier Stack’s description, is not the case.
