Ryder-1, W-2250 variety, with an estimated population of between 30 and 40 known based on our own research.

A very tough issue with many of the extant specimens flawed or impaired in some way, corroded, misshapen or very, very low grade (or some combination of the above).

And while this piece is not perfect, with an ancient scratch on the reverse and some minor natural flaws near the rims, it has lovely light chocolate brown color and much better surface quality than nearly all of the other ones we’ve traced.

We bought this coin raw and thought it should grade Fine or so for the issue, but PCGS was pretty harsh on it possibly because they have only seen a couple of these through the years.  Indeed, this coin seems to have been graded as if it were one of the better struck and more detailed Vermont varieties (such as the Britannia on this list), and not a Ryder-1 struck in typically shallow relief.

Whatever the grade, this is a very pleasing example with anything materially better (if you could find such a piece) likely to be very, very expensive.
