Cohen-2 variety, the rarer of the two Small 5, Stems types. Considered to be Rarity-5.
Rare varieties like this are not our usual fare, of course, but we simply had to have this wholesome golden brown piece because it is so much more pleasing than the norm.
Indeed, this variety usually comes dark, rough and with problems, as evidenced by the few that have come to market in recent years. The most recent record we can find of anything remotely comparable to this piece is this darker, dinged up F12 example which traded for $8,740 at Heritage almost 10 years ago.
Per EAC grading, the condition census for C-2 tops out at VF and quickly drops to VG, making this charming PCGS F15 a prize for the specialist.
