Breen-1084, W-9252 variety, holed for suspension on an Indian necklace (as are all but a couple of survivors of this issue), but here struck in Copper instead of the usual Brass.

This is one of just two copper examples certified by PCGS, the other being the Roper specimen, sharper than this but with unusual blue-gray color, some scratches on the obverse and a ‘W’ engraved on the reverse that was net graded as a VF20.

In contrast, this one is lovely and original, with near ideal chocolate brown color and relatively nice surfaces for an issue that is most often seen in golden brass with heavy corrosion.

Interestingly, this piece also exhibits the tell-tale wear pattern of a piece that was actually worn on a necklace, with the lower reverse slightly more worn (after prolonged contact against an Indian’s chest) than the top.

In all, an extremely appealing example of this very rare variant.
