Bart-7 variety, dies by Giuseppe Bianchi. 82mm
This medal was issued to commemorate the reconsecration of St. Paul’s Basilica Outside the Walls (of the Vatican) in 1854 after it was all but destroyed by fire in 1823 and then rebuilt.
With a stunning, super deep (the deepest of any architectural medal we’ve handled) 3-D interior image of the Basilica on one side, and a portrait of Pope Pius IX on the other.
And this is a lovely, all but unmarked example that looks better than 63 to this author.
