Judd-168 Original, considered to be Rarity-4.
A neat coin but one that proved difficult to corral, as this is the piece described in our Road Report of June 29 which we first inquired about waaaaaay back in 2020, then lost track of, then found again in a dealer’s case at the recent LB show.
It was undoubtedly was worth the wait though, as this is one of our favorite pattern designs with a Gobrecht Dollar-style obverse eagle, here offered in full CRO regalia, i.e. super choice, with cool woodgrain effect, housed in an old PCGS slab, blessed by CAC and accompanied by this ancient envelope indicating it can be traced to B. Max Mehl’s June, 1941 sale of the William F. Dunham Collection:
Q: How cool is that?
Note that this coin has been verified by CAC.
