KM-377.2 variety, struck at the Culiacan mint.
Admittedly not our usual fair (since we seldom offer chop marked or counterstamped coins on this site), but we decided to make an exception for this piece for two reasons:
- It is so incredibly crusty and original with ancient toning on the obverse and reverse, and
- It provides the ideal platform for your author to rail against the long time grading service practice of labeling coins like this as “damaged”. It seems to us that it would make more sense to simply identify this coin as chop marked and give it a straight grade. Who’s with me?
Regardless of the grade assigned, this is a lovely, choice example.
