Betts-615, Struck in Silver.

This is one of the great early American medals (the greatest, in fact, according to authors Katherine Jaeger and Q. David Bowers in their 100 Greatest American Tokens and Medals reference which features a silver Libertas Americana Medal on the cover).
With the classic portrait of Liberty on the obverse, and the reverse legend NON SINE DIIS ANIMOSUS INFANS, Latin for “The Courageous Child was Aided by the Gods”, as in the courageous infant America aided by the Goddess Minerva (symbolizing France) in the struggle against England. With the reverse dates 17 October 1777 and 19 October 1781 in exergue referencing the American victories at Saratoga and Yorktown.
And this is one the prettiest examples of this type we’ve ever seen, with superb original surfaces, lovely old cabinet toning and exceptional eye appeal for an issue often seen cleaned, polished, hairlined, stripped or otherwise impaired.
Note that this medal has been verified by CAC.
